Kazakh Scientific Research Institute for Road Safety

On March 20, 2024 was held a working meeting of “Kazakh Scientific Research Institute for Road Safety” and Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, as part of the activities to improve road safety in the Republic of Kazakhstan and familiarization with the best international practices, the meeting was held with the deputy deans and leading researchers of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, to study the experience of Thailand and establish a strategic partnership with the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. A memorandum of understanding and cooperation was signed at the event. This step marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between two leading academic organizations in the field of road safety.

This memorandum involves joint efforts by two leading research institutes to reduce road traffic accidents, deaths and severity of road traffic crashes (RTCs).  The main areas of cooperation include road safety, implementation and development of the International Road Project Assessment System (IRAP), and other areas in the road safety industry.

During the meeting they discussed the possibility of participation of Thai scientists in the development of departmental regulations “Road Safety Procedures”, developed by JSC “KazDORNII” in cooperation with LLP “Kazakh Scientific Research Institute for Road Safety” within the framework of the task of the Committee for Roads of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2018, ThaiRAP (Thailand Road Assessment Program) was established at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, operating under the umbrella of the global International Road Assessment Program. Since its inception, 8,000 highways and hundreds of regional roads have already been assessed in Bangkok, Phuket and other regions.

The Faculty of Engineering at Chulalongkorn University is making a significant contribution to improving road safety in Thailand, learning from their practices of standards and strategies will enhance the capacity of Kazakhstani road safety professionals. Working together will have a positive impact on road safety not only in our countries but also in the Central Asian and Asia-Pacific regions as a whole.
