Flash mob for the UN Global Road Safety Week

14 May 2021

The Kazakh Scientific Research Institute for Road Safety, together with the Committee for Roads of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Taldykorgan City Akimat, held a flash mob to mark the UN Global Road Safety Week, taking place on 16-23 May 2021.

The message of the event and of the video filmed as part of it is the promotion of safety, safe driving and safe crossing, aimed at our youngest road users and at drivers.

The main theme of the safety week is streets: limiting speeds to 30 km/h in pedestrian areas of city streets. It is precisely this speed that creates a comfortable environment for residents. Besides the obvious benefit of safer roads, lower speeds are also very important for tackling climate change, cutting carbon dioxide emissions and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The figure of 30 is no accident. Numerous studies show that at 30 km/h the likelihood of pedestrian deaths falls by 90%.

KazSRIRS fully supports this UN position and is working to apply best safety practices in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
