Road quality under daily monitoring

As part of maintenance and routine repairs, the Toll Roads Directorate branch of QazAvtoJol National Company JSC carries out scheduled work on an ongoing basis to keep toll roads in good operating condition.

Repairs are currently under way on the country's first toll section. The Nur-Sultan-Shchuchinsk road opened in 2009. The section is 211 km long in total, of which 126 km have an asphalt concrete surface and the remaining 85 km a cement concrete surface. Over 10 years of service, defects such as spalling, potholes and cracks have formed in places on the section's cement concrete surface. The main causes of such defects are the long service life and the specific features of the sharply continental climate.

Road services apply the technology and methods for repairing these defects in strict accordance with the technical regulations and recommendations developed by KazdorNII.

Staff of the road maintenance units identify minor surface defects every day and repair them immediately.

In addition to promptly repairing these defects, road services carry out scheduled preventive maintenance, such as repairing expansion joints, to keep moisture out of the pavement structure.

Expansion joints act as compensators between adjacent slabs as temperatures change, and must always be kept clean and sealed. That is why, since 2015, expansion joints have been repaired on a regular basis during the warm season by removing the old sealant, cleaning the joint and then resealing it.

These measures extend the service life of the road surface and ensure safe, uninterrupted travel on the toll section.
