Arystan Massanov, Director of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute for Road Safety LLP, and Deputy Director Zhandos Amanbayev took part in the meeting "International Road Assessment Programme in Europe: Advancing Road Infrastructure Safety towards 2030", held in London on 25-26 September 2023.
At the meeting, government bodies, international financial institutions (IFIs) and IRAP partners shared best practices and strategies for achieving road safety targets. Presentations were given by Matt Staton of the UK Government, Angela Byrne of the Welsh Government, leading international IRAP experts Monica Olyslagers, Suzy Charman, Samar Abouraad, Sarah Taylor and Marko Ševrović, and others. IFI representatives Debbie Cousins of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Brendan Halleman of the European Investment Bank also spoke about investment plans. As the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute for Road Safety LLP pioneered work with IRAP in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, the Institute's management presented the road safety situation and the work under the IRAP methodology in Kazakhstan. We shared information on the implementation of IRAP in Kazakhstan, IFI-funded projects, the work of government bodies and our own initiatives.
The IRAP methodology is widely recognised as the leading mechanism for improving road safety, and our Institute, in turn, is working to implement IRAP in Kazakhstan.
