On 11 March 2020, at the initiative of the Dvizhenie bez Opasnosti (Traffic Without Danger) expert centre (Russian Federation), a round table on preventing road traffic injuries among children was held in Nur-Sultan. It was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Healthcare and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yandex.Taxi, UNICEF and non-governmental organisations.
Unfortunately, road traffic injuries among children are currently a serious problem for our country. In 2018, 3,739 minors were injured on the roads and 197 children and teenagers were killed.
Arystan Massanov, President of the Kazakhstan National Association of Professional Engineers and Consultants, gave a presentation entitled "On Children's Safety on the Roads". Mr Massanov presented the Star Rating for Schools programme, part of the iRAP road safety assessment programme, and highlighted the benefits its application can bring for improving safety around schools and along children's routes from home to school.
