350 billion tenge to be allocated for expanding local road networks

The condition of 95% of regional and district roads could improve by 2025, the Head of State said

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has instructed that 350 billion tenge be allocated to expand networks of modern local roads, a BNews.kz correspondent reports.

"In recent years, historically important work has been done to build the national road transport network. In total, we have built and reconstructed more than 14,000 km of roads and 2,500 km of railways, as well as airports and seaports. It has all been done; nothing like this has ever been done in Kazakhstan before, and it is a source of pride. Our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will travel on these roads. They are all important, but the road home is even more important," the President said at the Nur Otan party congress.

"Expanding networks of modern local roads is a key task for the Government, and the party must monitor its implementation. I am instructing that an additional 350 billion tenge be allocated for these purposes to improve the situation on the ground. We have calculated that if this money is used properly, the condition of 95% of regional and district roads could improve by 2025," the Head of State added.

He stressed that all regional transport infrastructure facilities - airports, road and rail - must be modernised.

In his speech, the President also noted that the top priorities are access to clean drinking water for all residents of the country and a large-scale expansion of gas supply.

"I am instructing that an additional 140 billion tenge be allocated for water supply and sanitation. This money will go to the regions, and the akims must put things in order. This will allow us to solve the problem in this area for 2.2 million of our citizens. I am also instructing that an additional 140 billion tenge be allocated for gas and electricity supply. These measures will make it possible to supply gas to 1.1 million people and will significantly improve the reliability of regional electricity supply. I instruct the Government to earmark around 920 billion tenge for these purposes for 2019-2021," the President said.
